Welcome Hargeysa Online 24Hrs News Updates....

Wiil Somali ah oo nin cadaan ah uu ku toogtey toronto canada.

Ibrahim Abukar is being mourned this week by family and friends.

The man who shot and killed him, however, is being hailed a hero, both online and in his quiet east Mississauga neighbourhood.

Peel Regional Police say no charges are expected to be laid in the shooting death of the Toronto man, killed during what officers called a home invasion-style robbery early Friday inside Mike Vrga's home on Corkstone Glade.

Homicide investigators confirmed that Abukar, 22, was fatally shot at about 12:30 a.m. during a struggle with Vrga, 33, who confronted Abukar and his two accomplices.

Two police sources say it appears Vrga, a large man at 6-foot-4 and weighing more than 200 pounds, wrestled the gun away from Abukar and, in the struggle, the younger man was killed with his own gun in the basement of the home.

Vrga's wife, Sandy, along with their two children, a newborn and 1-year-old, were home at the time.

"The deceased male was not a resident of the home and is alleged to have broken in with the two other males," police said in a release. "They were confronted by the homeowner and a struggle ensued resulting in the death of the young male (Abukar). At this time, investigators have no information connecting the deceased to the homeowner, who suffered minor injuries."

Police are still searching for the two other men who broke into Vrga's home and later fled on foot in an unknown direction. Although there were reports one of them may have a gunshot wound and officers are checking GTA hospitals to see if he may have been treated, Homicide Insp. George Koekkoek said his detectives "have no information of anyone other than the deceased being shot."

Koekkoek said police aren't commenting on the motive for the break-in.

While hundreds gathered Monday at a Toronto mosque for Abukar's funeral, residents in Vrga's neighbourhood, in the area of Dixie and Rathburn Rds., today had nothing but praise for the homeowner.

"There is no way that charges should be laid against Mike for defending his home and his family," said James Cirella, who’s known Vrga for about three years. "He did the same thing I would have done. There were kids in the house and people he cared about."

Cirella isn't alone in his view. On Facebook, a page has been created titled "Support For Mike Vrga - A Real Canadian Hero." Close to 400 people have already thrown their support behind the page.

"Mike was justified in his actions and before we pass judgement please take a moment and put yourself in Mike's place," said one commenter.

Vrga rents out the basement to a woman in her 20s and operates a heating and air conditioning company from the home, according to neighbours.

Police rushed to the home after receiving a call about a break-and-enter at about 12:30 a.m. When officers arrived, they found Abukar in the basement suffering from gunshot wounds. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.

A gun has been recovered by police, according to a well-placed source, who added the incident occurred in the basement of the home, where the female tenant lived.

Neighbours said a basement window was smashed during the incident.

The police dispatcher who took the initial 9-1-1 call said she had an open line with the caller and suddenly heard a gunshot.

Neighbours, too, said they heard noise.

Josie Dinardo, whose 89-year-old mother lives next door to Vrga, said her mother’s caregiver heard two or three gunshots.

“Then she heard a lot of commotion and moaning,” she said, adding her mother has lived there for more than 30 years without any violence. “It’s a nice neighbourhood.”

Mark Guluzian, 32, an employee of Vrga’s, described Vrga as a “straight arrow family-oriented guy” who works hard and heads home to his kids.

Meanwhile, friends of Abukar, a York University student, remain shocked by his sudden death.

“I’m just flabbergasted right now; I’m shocked,” Mohamud Karim, who met Abukar almost 10 years ago in high school, said. “Anybody who meets this guy would say he’s just a kind, welcoming person who’s outgoing.”

Abukar was a third-year business student at York’s Schulich School of Business. Friends said Abukar coached youth through the Somali Youth Basketball League, where he spent most of his Saturdays.

“He would give advice to kids to go to post-secondary school. A real model for the Somali community,” said Karim. “He was warm.”

The Somali Student Association at York University released a statement Saturday, referring to Abukar as “a beautiful man who’s touched so many in our world.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 905-453-2121, ext. 3205.
